Effect of Size on the Strength of Structures
[摘要] “The nominal stress at failure of a structure and structural member frequently depends on its size. Reasons for this include the effects of material heterogeneity, the presence of sharp notches, and the fabrication of material interfaces. These effects are discussed (and where possible quantified) in terms of current structural theory and available test information. A particularly dangerous aspect noted of the size effect is that it may not occur unless member sizes are sufficiently large and consequently may not appear in scaled-down laboratory testing.” -- p. [1].
