Reservoir simulation screening of the Seaspray Depression
[摘要] The Gippsland Basin has been identified as a possible location for the large-scale geological storage of carbon dioxide from the emission sources in the nearby Latrobe Valley. This study forms part of the ongoing evaluation of the potential of the Gippsland Basin as a feasible storage site by GeoScience Victoria as part of the Victorian Geological Carbon Storage program. Numerical simulations are used to assess possible migration and storage scenarios for injection of carbon dioxide in the Seaspray Depression. Two possible storage sites are considered in detail: the first in the onshore region, and the second in the near-shore region. Several possible large-scale injection scenarios were considered, with total storage of up to 500 million tonnes. In all cases, lateral and vertical migration of the plume is detailed, and the proportion of carbon dioxide that is trapped due to residual trapping or dissolution into the resident formation water is calculated.
