SBT pilot gene-tagging project - factsheet

[摘要] A pilot gene-tagging project which will provide data to estimate abundance of juvenile southern bluefin tuna (SBT) has been funded by the Commission for the Conservation of SBT (CCSBT) and CSIRO. The pilot study will involve “tagging” and releasing fish alive in 2016, and sampling the catch for recaptures in 2017. The data from gene-tagging are planned to be used in stock assessment models, and in a new management procedure for SBT to calculate the recommended global catch. The trial will help refine the field and lab logistics and costs of on-going gene-tagging for monitoring of juvenile SBT abundance.
