Melanesian coastal and marine ecosystem assets: assessment framework and Milne Bay case study

[摘要] The Island States of Melanesia are scattered throughout the tropical eastern Pacific, from Maluku in eastern Indonesia to Fiji in the south west Pacific. The communities that live there are heavily reliant on their local ecosystems and the ecological services they provide for their health and livelihoods. While many of these islands have an abundance of island and marine resources, the spread and growth of human settlements has resulted in many communities finding it increasingly difficult to sustain themselves from existing local resources. There is also a growing concern about a range of developing threats to ecosystems including from climate change and agricultural and forest industries.
