Australian Primary Industries Transforming Project : peanut industry case study: summary of round three interview findings
[摘要] This information sheet provides a short summary of the main findings from the third round of interviews for the peanut industry case study, conducted during 2012, as part of the Australian Primary Industries Transforming project. This project aims to better understand the economic and social conditions and support required for primary industry, enterprises and communities to significantly change their practices in response to climate change. It is about understanding what encourages people to change their practices and what knowledge, skills and support are required to transform. The peanut industry case study focuses on the Peanut Company of Australia’s (PCA) experience of expanding its operations into Katherine, Northern Territory, after decades of below average in their traditional peanut production region in southern Queensland, and the subsequent ‘turnaround plan’.We conducted 13 interviews with company, government and community representatives. The interviews included questions about: (1) What factors have helped or hindered the success of the PCA and the ‘turnaround plan’; (2) What have been the main challenges associated with peanut growing; (3) The progress and effectiveness of the ‘turnaround plan’; and (4) What would be the key to a successful peanut industry?
