Population trends for Black Cockatoos in the Perth region - A desktop assessment
[摘要] The Great Cockatoo Count, undertaken by volunteers, and organised by Birdlife Australia is a major citizen science initiative, generating extensive monitoring data that would be unobtainable otherwise. It is an outstanding example of the power of citizen science to collect data at scale and over a considerable time period. However, due to the uncertainty of knowledge relating to how cockatoos utilise and roost within the landscape, and how roosts are detected by observers and chosen for selection in the annual count, the analysis of these data for the purpose of making inference on trends in population size presents challenges. This report analyses population estimation methods.
