Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA) Groundwater Drainage and Discharge Evaluation: Survey of groundwater quality 2006
[摘要] In June and November 2006, the groundwater quality beneath the Ord Stage 1 irrigation area was surveyed by collecting groundwater samples from thirty monitoring bores and analysing the samples for inorganic chemistry, nutrients and pesticides. The selected bores included twenty-three on Ivanhoe Plain and seven on Packsaddle Plain. The June survey was conducted several months after the commencement of the irrigation season, which normally runs from around April to October. The November survey was timed to precede the wet season rains, which usually commence in November and end around March. Groundwater quality results from this study were compared against irrigation water quality standards (ANZECC, 2000) and Australian drinking water guidelines (NHMRCNRMMC, 2004). Nevertheless, the study was not designed to investigate the suitability of groundwater for irrigation use or any other specific uses in the irrigation area. The main intent was to characterise the groundwater quality with respect to future management of groundwater drainage and discharge from the irrigation area.
