VPS2 Pilot: Observations on air conditioning load control tests conducted in Yarrabilba on 26 and 27 June 2017

[摘要] A direct load control test was conducted on 26 and 27 June 2017 in Yarrabilba.The test consisted of three sessions during which a sequence of demand response mode (DRM) commands was sent to the air conditioners. A morning session was conducted on each day between 4am and 7am. An evening session was conducted on 26 June between 7pm and 10pm.The participants were asked to keep their air conditioners turned on from the night of 25 June until 10pm on the 27 June with a room temperature set-point no lower than 21 degrees C.The purpose of the test was to validate the communication of load control commands and assess the magnitude of the response air conditioning loads to DRM commands while operating in heating mode.This report presents the test results and two main observations drawn from the analysis of the data collected during the tests: (1) Daikin air conditioners in the test appear produce an incorrect response to demand response commands, due to incorrect labelling and wiring of the demand response adaptor; (2) air conditioners of other makes respond correctly to a command to reduce energy demand to a minimum (compressor off), but their responses to commands to reduce energy consumption to 75% and 50% have in general not been observed.
