Energy use in the provision and consumption of urban water in Australia: an update

[摘要] This report is an update on the 2008 CSIRO-WSAA report on energy use in the provision and consumption of urban water in Australia, which used data from the 2006/07 financial year. This report has two sections – Part A is a review of current energy use in the urban water sector and Part B is an exploration of future energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and cost implications.Part A was based on data collected from 15 participating utilities that provide water services to the following cities and regions: Sydney, Melbourne, South East Queensland (SEQ), Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and the Hunter region. Utility demand, energy and greenhouse gas emissions data was provided for the 2009/10 financial year, with estimates also provided of future water supply source mix, energy intensity of new water sources and projected demand.Part B was based on information provided by utilities or in strategic planning documents. The scenario analysis explored the effect of increased adoption of climate independent water supply on energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and the associated cost. Yields from surface water and demands were also varied to explore the effect of dry and average years and low and moderate water demand.
