Torres Strait Research Repository 2013
[摘要] The Torres Strait Research Repository (RR2013/0015) was commissioned in April 2013, by the Torres Strait Scientific Advisory Committee (TSSAC) and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority Torres Strait (AFMA TS). The aim was to capture metadata, reports, and, where available, any data that was produced by projects funded by the AFMA TS since 2006. This follows on from the previous CRC Torres Data and Information Repository that was commissioned in June 2006, to capture publications and data produced by the Torres Strait CRC research program. This project was developed in direct response to a request from TSSAC and AFMA TS, regarding the issue of continuation of data archiving and management of information from AFMA funded TSprojects. The objective was to update the existing 2006 website which had been established and populated with publications and data received from past CRC Torres Strait Task Leaders.A summary of all funded AFMA Torres Strait projects since 2006 was produced. All Principal Investigators of the relevant projects were initially contacted by AFMA TS for verification of the project. Following this initial contact, all Principal Investigators were emailed directly, explaining the project objectives and requesting relevant project outputs (specifically any relevant metadata, reports and data, if available). A metadata template was specifically designed for this project and attached to the initial contact email.Modifications and updates were initially made to the existing Data Repository to capture the project information and outputs and bring them in line with the current 2013 Research Repository.Substantial work was needed to restore broken links as the initial website created in 2006 had become obsolete due to the internal upgrading of CSIRO's public website. The existing file repository containing datasets and reports was retained, however substantial work was invested in recording the different datasets into CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research's(CMAR) enterprise metadata system (MarLIN), and the resulting metadata records were exported into the web-accessible CMAR metadata server (GeoNetwork), in ISO19115 format. These metadata records contain a complete record of the AFMA funded research to date, and consolidate information from the previous 2006 repository, and information obtained from the current collationeffort (2013).The new information collated in this project has been incorporated into standard metadata records that are published on the web, and made available publicly. These metadata records describe theindividual AFMA funded projects, and link to the published reports, datasets and further information where available. They are hosted on the CMAR GeoNetwork metadata server, which also servesmetadata records describing CMAR research data. This service is available at: http://www.cmar.csiro.au/geonetwork/.A major benefit of this approach is the ongoing maintenance provided by the CMAR Information and Data Centre (CMAR IDC). The service can also be used by downstream data delivery services, such as the e-Atlas portal, to harvest metadata directly. Using a standard format facilitates re-use of this information. In all, the total holdings of the Torres Strait Repository are now described by 127 metadata records that have been made available on the internet in a standard format. The application of this research requires that the repository is promoted to stakeholders of the Torres Strait. In addition there will always be a need to facilitate the lodgement of research outputsto the repository. Effort is also required to maintain linkages to new or additional data repositories managed by other agencies. The end-users of the Torres Strait Research Repository will be government and non-government agencies with jurisdiction and/or interests in Torres Strait as well as research scientists studying theregion. It will ensure that historical project information is secured and remains ac...
