Developing simulators and scenarios to better understand the potential for fracturing fluids to move into aquifers
[摘要] This report documents the development of numerical modelling for predicting fracture growth and hydraulic fracturing fluid loss into an aquifer proximal to a coal seam. The report presents several worst case scenarios for fracturing fluid entering an aquifer. A scenario of transport of fluid between two wellbores is also considered. The scenario based investigations are intended to represent a possible but unlikely occurrence that would result in hydraulic fracturing fluid being left in the aquifer. The movement and ultimate fate of this fluid is not addressed in this report, but such an analysis is the primary intended end use of the data provided here. Companion reports deal with hydraulic fracture growth in general and fracture growth in Australian coal basins (Jeffrey et al. 2017a; Jeffrey et al. 2017b) and this report should be considered as an extension of that material.
