NSW RFS Bushfire Impact Assessments - Training Recommendations
[摘要] The New South Wales (NSW) Rural Fire Service (RFS) periodically performs workshops in which training and guidelines are provided in the use of the CSIRO Bushfire Impact Assessment (BIA). Developed in 2013, the BIA is used operationally to collect post-fire survey data with respect to property damage. The rationale for using the BIA for post-fire surveys is to collect comprehensive and consistent detail to better understand the attack mechanisms of bushfires and the vulnerability of buildings to these attacks. These surveys collect data that enable accurate analysis of the impact of fires on the communities and buildings affected, including the sequence of events that lead to the ignition of structures. This information is critical for informing improved community safety into the future.Training and guidelines in the use of the BIA is sporadic through time and place. Often a surveyor is only required to use the application once over many years. Recently, it has been noted that surveys are not as comprehensive as they could be, making it difficult to analyse the result and compare fire events. The following recommendations are made to highlight particular features, with particular focus on those elements systematically not collected.
