Geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology of the Yilgarn Margin ‐ Albany Fraser Orogen - Basement geology of the Salmon Gums, Woodline, Beachcomber and Neale areas
[摘要] The M411 Yilgarn margin‐Albany Fraser Orogen project aims to develop a regional‐scale regolith framework for the SE Yilgarn‐Albany Fraser Orogen margin. This framework is helping to develop geochemical exploration tools in the different environments along the orogen, in order to improve the efficiency in greenfields exploration. This section is focusing on the whole rock geochemistry of the different basement units in the Yilgarn margin related to four study areas: Salmon Gums, Woodline, Beachcomber and Neale (from SW to NE) and provides a basis for the understanding of the Yilgarn margin geology and potential pathfinder elements. Samples from Salmon Gums, Beachcomber and Neale were taken from diamond drill cores, whereas drill chips of end of hole samples were analysed in the Woodline area. Rocks were classified according to their major and trace element distribution with a special focus on rare earth element systematics. Furthermore, a detailed mineralogical study including the paragenesis of mineralization was performed on selected samples from the Salmon Gums, Woodline and Beachcomber areas. The Geological Survey of Australia dated, analysed and shared data of the Salmon Gums and Woodline areas. Handheld portable XRF was used to analyse profiles over Au‐mineralized zones of one Salmon Gums and two Beachcomber diamond drill cores. Stable isotope studies were performed on sulphides and carbonates of two drill cores of the Salmon Gums area.
