Guide to studies on tick ecology
[摘要] "The Guide to Studies on Tick Ecology provides a framework for studies of ixodid and argasid ticks, based on recently developed analytical techniques in ecology. The life system of ticks can conveniently be divided into three components: free-living development, host finding, and the parasitic phase. Each component can be studied separately and then integrated into a life system. Essential research activities include surveys, gathering of census data, and experimental and theoretical studies. Emphasis is placed on the one-host tick, Boophilus microplus, but an example is given of the application of the approach to a three-host tick, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus. The approach is considered to be applicable also to many other parasitic types, such as helminths.A series of appendices describes a wide range of laboratory and fieldtechniques, including: culturing free-living stages; rearing ticks on large hosts; counting eggs, larvae, and parasitic stages; and estimating host-finding rates. The Guide gives selected references and is indexed." -- p. 5
