The Kupferschiefer Mineralisation - Unravelling the genesis of mineralised black shales of the Kupferschiefer Deposit via mineralogical and organic matter characterisation - Thuringia Basin
[摘要] The Permian Pb, Zn, Cu, Ag, Au, PGE Kupferschiefer deposit expands 600,000 km2 throughout Germany and Poland. Its metalliferous content is associated with organic matter enrichment. Two different metallogenic models have been proposed for different areas Kupferschiefer: (1) a syngenetic model associated with the presence of anoxic and sulfidic bottom waters, promoting strong pyritisation and co-precipitation of redox-sensitive trace elements and commodities; and (2) a syngenetic model related to the presence of metal-bearing oxidising brines leading to the oxidation of organic matter and accumulation of metals including Au, Ag and PGE. This study focusses on the Thuringia Basin, where the source of the metals remains unknown. XRF, XRD, SEM and FTIR analyses allowed for detailed mineralogy and organic matter characterisation of the samples. Analytical results are interpreted to record metal enrichment of black shales due to sea water scavenging.
