Conservation of threatened species on pastoral land in the southern Northern Territory: identifying, monitoring and managing refuges. Progress Report March 2013
[摘要] This short report summaries work to date on the Territory Natural Resource Management (TNRM) project “Conservation of threatened species on pastoral land in the southern Northern Territory: identifying, monitoring and managing refuges”. This report includes work completed as part of two separate TNRM contracts, namely NTRM00139 (with CSIRO) and NTRM00145 (with Jane Addison Consultancy). The report is ordered according to NTRM00139 project milestones relevant to the time period July – December 2012. The four NTRM00139 milestones are discussed together with the three milestones of NTRM00145 where these overlap. NTRM00139 milestones relevant to the time period July – December 2012 are as follows:1.Complete list of high conservation value refuges in Finke and Burke bioregions. 2.Complete monitoring session.3.Complete desktop assessment to locate potential refuges on Finke and Burt Plain bioregions properties4.Participate in discussions with key stakeholders to develop draft framework. All milestones have been met. Milestone 1 was met by the compilation of potential refuge sites assembled at the commencement of the study. Milestone 2 was met by fauna surveys at Andado pastoral lease during December 2012 and March 2013. Milestone 3 was met through a desktop assessment and compilation of a list of potential refuges in the Finke and Burt Plain bioregions. A subset of these potential refuges will be examined on the ground. Milestone 4 was met via phone and face to face meetings with a range of key stakeholders, as well as through a review of the published literature.
