Training/Workshop on Dynamical Downscaling using the Conformal-Cubic Atmospheric Model (CCAM)

[摘要] This workshop was held at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) headquarters in Quezon City in order to provide training on the following topics:- Understanding of climate model projections and outputs- Evaluation of climate simulations from multiple climate models (mean, seasonal, variability)- Consideration of climate features: tropical cyclones, drought, heat waves, and extremes.- Assessment of downscaling techniques and their products to understand uncertainties accompanying the regional climate projections- Training on Regional Climate Model (RCM) simulation, data analysis and applications.- Meeting the requests of end-users for downscaled products (e.g., hydrology, agriculture, water resources, land cover and ecosystem etc.), with definition of data types, formats and resolutions, most useful for vulnerability, impacts and adaptation analysis.The morning sessions were primarily lectures by Dr Katzfey. For the afternoon sessions, the workshop covered aspects of managing data, using tools to analyse the data and the basics of running a regional climate model. Participants included students, trainees, experienced scientists and end users, such as agricultural and hydrological experts.Overall, the workshop was deemed a success, as participants learned more about the issues in generating, processing and understanding regional climate projection data. In particular, issues related to dealing with the range of possible futures were presented and discussed, with participants gaining a better understanding of how to appropriately sample the range and manage uncertainties.Copies of all presentations were provided to the participants.
