CMRS and Quilted AWRA AET Production System
[摘要] Estimates of Actual Evapotranspiration (AET) are of great importance to the Bureau’s mandate to improve water information and accounting.A system has been developed to compute the CMRSET AET product for the whole of Australia at 250m resolution every eight days.It is based on MODIS remote sensing imagery and interpolated grids of weather observations. The system is reliable, efficient and portable, and makes data available with comprehensive standards-compliant metadata in a modern self-contained data format. While it is working successfully in a “pre-production” mode, the ultimate test of the implementation of this system will be the ease with which the Bureau is able to transition it into full production in-house.An earlier review of AET estimation techniques concluded that the wide variety of environmental conditions across Australia mean that it is difficult for any single AET product to provide accurate estimates nationwide. It recommended creating a composite product by using the remote-sensing based CMRSET product in areas where there is significant lateral inflow of water, and the water-balance model based AWRA estimate elsewhere, in the more arid regions where AET is dependent primarily on rainfall. The CMRSET production system was extended to enable this “quilted” product to be generated using a feed of the AWRA data and a mask delineating lateral inflow regions. The system has provided a path-finder for developing continental gridded data products in a parallel processing environment. This has proven highly effective with a two order of magnitude improvement in processing speed. The incorporation of in-line sanity checks and log recording has resulted in a reliable and mostly automated system requiring relatively little manual intervention.
