High resolution remote camera photography for the quantification of coastal use at Chowder Bay and Magic Point – Sydney NSWProgress report to the NSW Department of Primary Industries
[摘要] The ruggedized GigaPan systems at Chowder Bay and Magic Point/Maroubra have successfully captured data continuously since their initial deployment on 26th March 2015. Three statistical models have been developed for analysis of data. Several rounds of images have now been processed into high-resolution, interactive time-machine movies which are available via the following web-link http://gigapan.csiro.au/ Analysis has been conducted for preliminary results from March and April 2015. Extrapolated monthly recreational effort at Chowder Bay for March was 15,268 +/- 3,513 hours and for April 11,122 +/- 919 hours. While, at Maroubra effort in March was 7,169 +/- 905 hours and in April7,190 +/- 498 hours. It should be noted that the March figure are from an extrapolation of a limited number of samples. Each site had differing groups of users with Chowder Bay dominated by “Jetty activity” (both fishing and non fishing), yacht mooring and beach goers. For Maroubra our preliminary results indicate activity dominated by beach goers and rock walkers. One exception to a common pattern of low daily variability at Maroubra was commercial dive boat operations, which were sporadic but with large party sizes. Extractive use at Chowder Bay was 26% and at Maroubra 12%. The largest single recreational effort activity for Chowder Bay was "Pier Jetty Fisher" which had combined (March/April) effort of 5,921hrs +/- 1,080 and for Maroubra the largest effort share was by "Beach Goers" which had combined (March/April) effort of 3,795hrs +/- 462.
