Australian National Outlook 2015: Economic activity, resource use, environmental performance and living standards, 1970-2050.

[摘要] The Australian National Outlook is a new initiative by CSIRO, whichis intended to contribute to theevidence base and understandingrequired for Australia to navigatethe complex and often intertwinedchallenges involved in achievingsustainable prosperity.This first National Outlook seeksto provide a better understandingof Australia’s physical economy.It has a particular focus onunderstanding two aspects: The‘energy-water-food nexus’ and theprospects for Australia’s materialsandenergy-intensive industries,which account for one quarter ofeconomic value and employment,but around three quarters of ouruse of energy, water and materials.The National Outlook and sciencein general can contribute evidenceand analysis to inform the nationalconversations. However it cannotdetermine the choices we have tomake as a community. They will– and should – be shaped by ourvalues and collective imagination.While this outlook identifiesnational opportunities, achievingthese benefits will requireconsiderable further considerationand action. The investments andother changes required will nothappen overnight. There is nooverstating of the challengesfor policymakers, industriesand communities in navigatingthe transitions needed tosecure our future prosperity.
