Land resource survey, upper Ramu catchment, Papua New Guinea

[摘要] A survey was undertaken to assess land resource potential, land use constraints and watershedmanagement needs in the Upper Ramu catchment, Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea(PNG). The work was undertaken as part of the Papua New Guinea Resource Information System(PNGRIS) Project to develop and test a land resource assessment methodology for use in catchment and project-level planning in PNG. The Upper Ramu catchment, Eastern Highlands Province, was selected as the pilot study area in which to apply and test the resource assessment methods. This publication presents the results of the land resource survey, identifies physical suitability of land for various forestry species and agricultural crops, assesses erosion condition of the catchment, and makes recommendations for erosion control and reduction of sediment delivery to the Ramu River.
