Australia-China collaboration workshop. Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, China - May 2011. Final report

[摘要] An agricultural water management workshop titled “New Approaches to Agricultural Water Management in a Changing Climate” was held the 22-27th May 2011 in the Hebei Province of China. The workshop involved two days of field trips across parts of the North China Plain (NCP) and two days of intensive meetings involving 7 Australian and 7 Chinese delegates at the Suns Grain Hotel and at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Centre for Agricultural Resources Research in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, China.The field trips provided firsthand experience of the agricultural and water landscape and some of the challenges and opportunities faced in the NCP.The meetings provided opportunity for in-depth discussions between the Australian and Chinese delegates and development of an outline for a potential collaborative research project.The working title for the project proposal is “New Approaches to Agricultural Water Management for Food Security in a Changing Environment”. Workshop participants are now developing concept notes for core project activities as part of the process to flesh out the detail and focus of the overall project, and to identify key participants and potential Chinese, Australian and International investors. Some of these concept notes have the potential to evolve into additional projects in their own right
