This publication is intended to give a full and balanced description of the safeguards techniques and equipment used for nuclear material accountancy, containment and surveillance measures, environmental sampling and data security. Specific features are included in installed equipment systems in order to ensure authenticity and confidentiality of information. A completely new section on new and novel technologies has been added to describe the most recent and promising future safeguards tools to detect declared and undeclared nuclear material and activities.
