Some amalgams in characteristic 3 related to Co-1

[摘要] Co-1 has parabolic subgroups of the shape 3(6)2M(12) and 3(1+4)Sp(4)(3).2. Lyons' simple group Ly has parabolics of the form 3(5)(M-11 x 2) and 3(2+4)A(5)D(8). We will characterize these parabolics and similar ones found in subgroups of Co-1 using the amalgam method. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
