USE OF A SHOOTING METHOD TO COMPUTE EIGENVALUES OF 4TH-ORDER 2-POINT BOUNDARY-VALUE-PROBLEMS

[摘要] The shooting method for solving regular two-point boundary value problems (TPBVPs) can also be used to solve eigenvalue problems of that type. The method in the past has been used to solve eigenvalue problems related to partial differential equations as in the Helmholtz equation for example. The present new application to computing eigenvalues related to fourth-order ordinary differential equations is shown to be quite straightforward and solutions are obtained in a few seconds on modem workstations.
