INHIBITION OF THEOPHYLLINE CLEARANCE BY TROLEANDOMYCIN
[摘要] The effect of troleandomycin, a macrolide antibiotic, on theophylline elimination was examined in 8 patients with chronic asthma. Clearance from serum was reduced by 50 .+-. 6% (mean .+-. SD) during i.v. administration of 250 mg troleandomycin 4 times daily. Clearance reduction persisted to a lesser degree in 1 of these patients. An increase in serum theophylline concentration can result from initiating troleandomycin in asthmatic patients receiving continuous theophylline treatment. This may be a partial explanation for the apparent benefit of the drug in chronic asthma and suggests the possibility of inducing theophylline toxicity, including seizures.
