Convective instability and pattern formation in magnetic fluids

[摘要] A nonlinear convective instability in a layer of magnetic fluid is investigated in the presence of an applied magnetic field and temperature gradient. The stability of steady state patterns resulting from the convective instability is discussed using bifurcation theory. Rolls are found to be stable on both the square and hexagonal lattices.
