SOME EFFECTS OF ACTH, CORTISONE, PROGESTERONE AND TESTOSTERONE ON SEBACEOUS GLANDS IN THE WHITE RAT
[摘要] A series of quantitative expts. designed to estimate variations in size of rat sebaceous glands following injn. of hormones is descr. Testosterone propionate (1.0 mg./day) for 30 days produced an avg. increase in sebaceous gland size of about 400%. Progesterone (10 mgs./day) for 15 days produced enlargement comparable to that induced by testosterone, i.e., an avg. increase of 360 %. Cortisone (1.0 mg./day) for 30 days caused mild sebaceous gland atrophy. ACTH (0.5 mg./day) for the same time interval caused only slight volume increase which averaged about 80%. A new hypothesis concerning the endocrine origin of adolescent seborrhea and acne in the female is proposed.
