ON THE WEIGHT OF THE SKIN

[摘要] The literature carries conflicting figures for the wt. of the skin. Some authorities have calculated, or physically measured, it to be about 7-9 lbs. and others, about 20 lbs. The source of the discrepancy is disclosed to depend on what is considered to be skin. The lower figure is correct if skin is taken to extend to as much fat inclusive as clothes its deepest appendages; the upper figure is correct if skin is taken to include the entire panniculus adiposus down to the first facial planes. Formulas and numerical data are given with which the wt. of the skin may be calculated to whatever level it is desired to take it.
