ANTIBIOTICS AND THEIR ACTION ON PATHOGENIC FUNGI .1. PENICILLIN AND STREPTOMYCIN

[摘要] The addition of penicillin and streptomycin to Sabouraud''s maltose agar increases the yield of positive cultures of dermatophytes on primary isolation from clinical material, shortens the time of the appearance of growth by approx. 50% and does not influence the rate of growth of stock cultures of 4 different dermatophytes. The antibiotics seem to activate the adaptation of fungi from parasitic to saprophytic life.
