FOUNTAIN PEN INK AS AN AID IN MYCOLOGIC TECHNIC

[摘要] Cutaneous material containing dermatophytes, Candida albicans, Nocardia minutissima. and Malassezia furfur may be examined directly in a mixture of 9 parts KOH (10%) and 1 part Parker Superchrome Blue-Black ink. Such specimens, with the exception of erythrasma scales, may be rendered permanent by drawing off the ink-alkali mixture, neutralizing in 10% acetic acid, dehydrating in absolute alcohol, and mounting. Erythrasma scales and fungus-infected hairs may be mounted permanently in lactophenol after removal of the KOH-ink mixture. Material examined directly in undiluted ink may be cultured subsequently.
