THE EFFECTS OF SODIUM FLUOSILICATE, NA2SIF6 ON THE SKIN AND EYES OF RABBITS
[摘要] Several experiments to study the effects of sodium fluosilicate on the skin and eyes of rabbits were performed. The compound had no noticeable gross effect on the intact skin, undamaged eye, or damaged eye. When the compound was applied to superficial scratches in the skin, definite lesions formed, the progression of which is described grossly and microscopically. Similar lesions were produced by intradermal and subcutaneous injections of the compound in saturated solution. Daily contamination of lesions with Na2SiF6 was carried out to determine its effect on progression and healing of the lesions. No significant effect was observed. Four drugs (a steroid, an antibiotic, an antihistamine, and milk of magnesia) were applied daily to lesions to study their effect on progression and healing. No change was apparent grossly in lesions to which each of these were applied. Finally, in removing the Na2SiF6 from contaminated scratches by irrigating them with tap water at time intervals after exposure, the minimum duration of exposure necessary to create a lesion was determined to be approximately 2 minutes.
