THE GERMINATION OF THE FUSEAUX OF MICROSPORUM FULVUM
[摘要] Under proper conditions the fuseaux of M. fulvum germinate in 3-5 hours. Sprouts are sent out from the ends and the segments of the fuseaux. Fuseaux of M. fulvum germinate rapidly in Sabouraud''s agar at 25[degree]C to 35[degree]C. Germination is slower at 40[degree]C and does not occur at 4[degree]C or below. Fuseaux of M. fulvum germinate slowly when they are incubated at room temperature in water, normal saline, 5% dextrose in water and 5% dextrose in saline. New fuseaux form within 24 hours in cultures on Sabouraud''s agar which are incubated at 25[degree]C to 35[degree]C, but cease to develop at 40[degree]C. No development occurs in cultures incubated at room temperature in distilled water, normal saline, 5% dextrose in water and 5% dextrose in saline. New fuseaux develop as smooth, clubshaped enlargements at the ends of the hyphae or their branches. As they become older, compartments are formed. Fusion of hyphae is a prominent and early feature of most of the cultures which germinate. Chlamydospores form on fuseaux and hyphae in agar cultures incubated at 40[degree]C and those kept at room temperature in 5% dextrose in water and 5% dextrose in saline.
