THE MECHANISM OF THE PHOTODYNAMIC EFFECT

[摘要] Photosensitization is brought about by the absorption of the energy from light by the photosensitizing substance or by a complex of photosensitizer with protein or nucleic acid. The photosensitization reaction may progress from this point by one of 3 possible routes: (1) chemical combination of photosensitizer with cellular constituents, (2) oxidation of a sensitive cell constituent or (3) indirect exitation of cell constituents which through chemical changes cause inactivitation of vital cellular activities.
