THE EFFECTS OF CORTISONE ON EXPERIMENTAL COCCIDIOIDOMYCOSIS
[摘要] Cortisone in dilutions of 1:2500 to 1:20,000 had no visible gross effects on the growth of Coccidoides immitis in vitro, and had a minimal adverse effect on the longevity of mice infected with C. immitis. The adverse effect appeared to be zonal and did not parallel increasing dosages of the drug. Cortisone also had some adverse effect on the early phase of the hosts'' response to C. immitis as detd. by histological examination of the tissues. This consisted of an increase in the quantity of polymorpho-nuclear and lymphocytic cells resulting in larger granulomas with a larger and more edematous central necrotic component. The peripheral fibroblastic response was apparently unaffected. In mice infected with C. immitis. cortisone appeared to produce earlier maturation and multiplication of the fungus. The adverse effect of cortisone in this expt. was much less dramatic than most other reported animal expts. with this and other organisms.
