DIRECTIONAL EFFECTS OF SKIN - A BIO-ENGINEERING STUDY OF SKIN WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO LANGERS LINES

[摘要] The phenomenon of Langer''s lines was verified and investigated. It was shown that Lander''s lines are lines of principle tension in the skin. Histological work has shown that the lines also follow the direction of general orientation of the fibers. It is suggested that this is the mechanism of production of the lines. A lattice theory for the structure of skin has been postulated, the basis of which has been verified by mathematical results obtained from mechanical tests carried out on the skin, using an extensometer constructed for the purpose.
