SPECIFIC TISSUE ALTERATION IN LEPROUS SKIN .3. SPECIFIC REACTION DUE TO VARIOUS AGENTS
[摘要] Intradermal injn. of leishmania vaccine, milk or peptone into leprous patients, with or without active lepromatous leprosu, elicited a specific foam cell reaction typical for leprosy. A similar reaction was seen in the skins of leprous patients bitten by the sand fly and with eruptions appearing during chemotherapy. In the normal appearing skin of a control serious of leprous patients, foam cells were not found in 2/3 of the cases and only min. infiltrations in the remaining 1/3. In a 2d control series of non-leprous patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis, the injn. of leishmania vaccine evoked a nonspecific inflammatory reaction in the dermis. It is concluded that leprosy causes a specific altered reactivity of the skin which reacts to injury with a histological picture characteristic of the host''s tissue response.
