STUDIES IN PERCUTANEOUS ABSORPTION OF RADIOIODINE
[摘要] Radioiodine, I131, with a half-lifetime of 8 days, was applied on thoroughly defatted skin of guinea pigs, rabbits and humans. The inunctum contained 50 to 100 [mu], curies of Il31/g, of various vehicles, distributed over an area of approx. 30 sq. cm. After 12-60 hrs. contact biopsies were made and radioautographs produced. Studies on human subjects indicate that iodine applied to the skin remains in the skin for several days, gradually disappearing either by absorption or by evaporation and other surface loss. Application of radioiodine to the skin of a pregnant animal results in marked concn. of the I not only in the thyroid gland but also in the gastric fluid of the fetus; approx. 70% of all the I present in the fetus is recoverable from the stomach. The distribution of radioactive I in various organs of the rabbit and guinea pig following percutaneous absorption is demonstrated.
