A MICROMETHOD FOR THE ESTIMATION OF FREE AND COMBINED CHOLESTEROL USING THE MONOLAYER FILM TECHNIC

[摘要] The method is based on measurement of areas of monomolecular films of lipids before and after the cholesterol is removed by digitonin. A modified technique for forming and measuring monolayer films is described. Cholesterol can be estimated by the monolayer film method in 3-12 [mu]g quantities with recoveries of 97% (free) and 96% (total) cholesterol. These small quantities of detectable cholesterol represent 1/6-1/2 the amounts of cholesterol required by conventional colorimetric procedures.
