THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF HUMAN SEBUM

[摘要] Sebum was collected by the Emanuel method from the foreheads of a number of individuals. Its specific gravity as detd. by a pycnometer was 0.911. The surface tension at temps. varying from 26.5[degree]C to 31[degree]C averaged 24.89 dynes/cm. The viscosity at 38[degree]C was 551.9 millipoises, at 30[degree]C, 859.7 millipoises and at 28.5[degree]C, 984.3 millipoises. The sebum separated into various components when the temp. was lowered to 29[degree]-30[degree]C and ceased to flow at 15[degree]-17[degree]C.
