SOME FACTORS INFLUENCING RESPIRATION OF CATTLE SKIN SLICES .I. TECHNICAL AND ANIMAL FACTORS
[摘要] Factors shown to influence the In vitro respiration rate of cattle skin slices are the time interval between sampling and gassing, the time of day at sampling, and the day of sampling. Respiration rates were not affected by the temperature at which slices were stored and processed or by the site from which samples were taken. Good repeatability within animals was achieved by eliminating or minimizing the factors shown to influence respiration rates. Using standardized conditions, replicate analyses on all 79 or on 44 selected steers, derived from 7 breeds, failed to show up any significant difference between individual breeds even after minimizing the day of sampling effects. However, on arranging the breeds into 3 groups, a significant difference between these groups was found. There is a significant correlation between the respiration rate on the one hand, and the coat type and body weight on the other.
