GLYCINE-C-14 INCORPORATION INTO THE PROTEINS OF NORMAL STRATUM CORNEUM AND THE ABNORMAL STRATUM CORNEUM OF PSORIASIS
[摘要] Glycine-C14 was systemically given to human subjects and the specific activity of glycine incorporated into proteins of the stratum corneum of the back subsequently determined. The turnover time of the normal human epidermis was 26 to 28 days, while that of the epidermis in psoriasis was found 3 to 4 days. Results are interpreted to indicate that an 8 to 9 fold increase in mitotic rate is necessary to account for the accelerated turnover time in psoriasis. Maximum specific activity appeared as a sharp peak in normal stratum corneum 26 to 28 days following administration of labeled amino acid, suggesting that maximum protein synthesis occurs in a narrow zone in the epidermis, possibly the basal cell layer. It is calculated that 2 to 3 cell layers of stratum corneum are normally shed each day.
