CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM IN PSORIASIS - AN ENZYMATIC STUDY
[摘要] All of the enzymes assayed for were present in both the involved and non-involved epidermis of patients with psoriasis. The overall changes in metabolic pattern which exist in the psoriatic plaque as compared with the normal -appearing skin are consistent with a reorganization of the resources of the cell in order to facilitate cellular reporduction. This reorganization proceeds not by a change in the levels of one or 2 key enzymes, but by controlled and consistent changes in whole series of enzymes responsible for specific metabolic or synthetic functions. Increased production of glycogen and uronic acids can also be demonstrated in the psoriatic plaque. The glycogen accumulation is due to a lack of increase in its breakdown and cannot be regarded as an energy source of any importance. Attention must be shifted from the enzyme levels themselves to the factors which control the enzyme levels. And from these factors to the proliferative stimulus which in turn affects the controlling mechanisms and allows or forces isolated areas of epidermis to proliferate at such high rates.
