MICROSTRUCTURAL EXAMINATION OF FFTF-IRRADIATED MANGANESE-STABILIZED MARTENSITIC STAINLESS-STEEL
[摘要] Transmission electron microscopic examination has been performed on selected TEM disk specimens of manganese-stabilized martensitic stainless steel in order to get identification on the cause of irradiation embrittlement studied by D.S. Gelles and W.L. Hu. Microstructural examination of a specimen irradiated at higher temperature had demonstrated the presence of intermetallic chi-phase known to cause embrittlement. This work indicated that manganese-stabilized steels are prone to intermetallic phase formation which is detrimental to mechanical properties. Ferrite phase was still contained in spite of martensite by manganese addition, and cavity formation was observed and limited within the ferrite phase. This requires further stabilization of the martensitic phase by improved alloy design.
