Difference between powers and squares of whole numbers

[摘要] We solve the equation x(2) + 7 = y(n) for fixed values of n less than or equal to 5000 using the classical machinery for Thue equation and modular tools. Next we solve it for fixed values of y less than or equal to 10(9) using linear forms of logarithms and reduction techniques. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
