NUCLEAR-POLARIZATION OF RADIOACTIVE BEAMS BY TILTED FOILS

[摘要] The use of the tilted-foil interaction in conjunction with separated reaction-product beams has been demonstrated to be a powerful method for polarizing short-lived nuclei. Such polarization can in turn be utilized for diverse measurements of electromagnetic properties of nuclei such as signs and magnitudes of quadrupole moments of isomeric high spin levels, magnetic moments of ground states of mirror nuclei and parity violation effects. These activities, as well as the possible use of the tilted-foil polarization of radioactive beams for surface physics studies, will be summarized and discussed with regard to future prospects.
