STABLE CARBON-ISOTOPE ANALYSIS OF COPROCESSING MATERIALS
[摘要] A method is presented for using stable carbon isotope analyses to determine the source of the carbon in the product fractions from coal/petroleum coprocessing. Such information is valuable for process modelling and optimization and for discerning reaction pathways and interactions between the two feedstocks. Selective isotopic fractionation, a phenomenon by which the two stable carbon isotopes from a single feedstock selectively report to different products, must be accounted for. Selective isotopic fractionation appears to be exacerbated by reaction severity and, without correction, it can cause large quantitation errors at high conversion conditions. The method described herein accounts for selective isotopic fractionation occurring in both feeds without requiring blank (single feedstock) runs. Examples of the application of this method to continuous coprocessing operations are also discussed.
