Cross-spectrally pure light and the spectral modulation law

[摘要] Mandel's concept of cross-spectral purity is generalized to apply not only to certain kinds of beams, but also to some fields in three-dimensional regions of space. Examples of such fields are given. The results also provide justification for the use of the so-called reduction formula for cross-spectrally pure beams in previous analysis of the Hanbury-Brown-Twiss experiments, relating to the determination of the degree of coherence of light from photoelectric measurements.
