Building structure into engineered tissues

[摘要] We describe the importance of structural organization on tissue function with emphasis on scaffold design. We give examples of how structure influences the properties of native tissues and describe strategies that attempt to recapitulate such structures through scaffold engineering. Finally, we discuss future challenges and suggest potential avenues for materials scientists and engineers to contribute to the field of tissue engineering.
