Quasicrystals step out of the shadows

[摘要] Photonic quasicrystals, optical structures that are not strictly periodic but do show regular arrangements, are beginning to find applications beyond the laboratory. To understand them, one must first understand conventional photonic crystals. Materials Today investigates the foundations of quasicrystals and looks at where they might find use.
